City of David, Jerusalem

Jeff and I met Peggy P at the City of David, Jerusalem. We had a fascinating time climbing over the remains of David’s Palace and learning the history of the City of David. We walked at least 1/3 of a mile through the old underground water system that carried the water from Gihon Spring (outside the old city walls) into the city of Jerusalem. These tunnels and drainage canals are at least 2000 years old, and are still functional. The pool of Shiloah (Siloam) was recorded in 2 Kings 20:20, “The other events of Hezekiah’s reign, and all his exploits, and how he made the pool and the conduit and brought the water into the city of Jerusalem are recorded….” Second Temple sources mention the Shiloah Pool in regard to Temple ceremonies, “How was the Water Libation performed? The priest would fill a golden flask holding 3 logs (a liquid measure) with water from Shiloah…(Mishnah Sukkah 4:9).

Jerusalem…the city of the King!!
